Pre-MARC Program

Fall 2023 Application Cycle Forthcoming!

The Pre-MARC program is interconnected with the MARC program. Freshmen and sophomores from underrepresented backgrounds are eligible. Here is an outline of the pre-MARC program:

Program Goals:

1) increase student awareness of biomedical research enterprise, including opportunities in academia and industry
2) lower the barriers perceived by students to connect with faculty mentors
3) allow students time to experience what biomedical research looks like, such that they can develop a sense of belonging in the career

Innovations:

1. New sophomore-level course designed to teach skills necessary for research (reading literature, writing hypotheses, identifying literature resources, defining “research”)
2. Research Shadowing Program
3. Fall Research Symposium
4. Spring Undergraduate Honors Research Symposium

Curriculum:

1. Synergize with existing Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience major framework
2. Partner advertising with NSF-funded CUREs, TEAMsUR
3. New course: sophomore-level “Introduction to Research”
